I began my running journey in 2011 at the age of 40. I started to run partly for health reasons - both physical and mental, as a challenge to see if I was able to break my deep seated believe that "I am not a runner" and because I wanted to run as effortlessly as Mr Lapin does.
I started to run while we were living in Bangkok Thailand and this presented a series of unique issues. The city of Bangkok does not offer up many safe or pleasant open spaces in which to run and the consistent heat and humidity mean that the window in which to run comfortably is short. However, this did not dim my enthusiasm and with a friend Ms A I began to run up to 3 times a week, training for my first ever race, a 10K in the city.
I ran that race, loved it and decided that running is something I could actually do and enjoy (well not always but you understand). Though I was not sure I would have called myself runner back then. It took another two years and one half-marathon for me to feel comfortable enough to call myself that and not feel like a fraud.
In August 2012 Mr Lapin and I left Thailand and moved to the United States, Atlanta Georgia. Atlanta - a city with more running clubs than any other in the US which I felt boded well for my running journey. I have spent the last year some running races - 5K, 10K and one half-marathon and have decided for now these are the distances I am comfortable with.
Alongside the running is a new found interest in diet and health and so I look t eat as healthily and as flavoursome as possible.
This blog is mainly focused on my running with the occasional entries reflecting on the environments I live in - for example being a Brit living in America. Please feel free to leave comments or tips and I hope you enjoy my musings.
